The Fan
The Fan is a comprehensive sports app that combines the experience of a news source, social media, and live viewing. Designing the app with the focus of staying connected while on the go, the user is able to remain a part of a team’s community from around the world and communicate with fellow fans from anywhere. Based on a user’s team preferences determines the content that is filtered into their newsfeed and game lineup. The social media side of The Fan is called Rant. The Rant social platform is based upon microblogging and subcategories, which allows the user the freedom to post whatever content they wish as well as sort and view the posted content. Rant creates a holistic feeling that consistently carries through the rest of the application and unifies the experience.
Home Screen
The home screen of the app works like the news feeds of other media applications. Based on the user’s preferences determines what news if filtered in their feed. Basically, all highlights and to news stories are shown on the home screen. By selecting a favorite team filters the content to show news that is relevant to that team.
Games
The games section of the app is meant to inform the user of live scores. The content is filterable by favorited teams, sport, league, and professional level. The content can also be sorted by time remaining, ranked matches, and close scoring games. Not only does this app inform you scores, but the app also works to enhance your live viewing experience. Each game is broken down into stats and is accompanied with data depicted in infographics and a player profile. On each game summary there is a Rant button that allows you to upload a rant and use this game as the source.
Rant
The social part comes into play through commenting and voting in favor or against a rant, which is the name for a post. The joy of voting is that you can vote as many times as you wish. So if a user is deadset against something or for something they can spend all day voting for that rant. Rant is what makes this app holistic. The games and news articles have a rant button that allows you to link the source article that inspired the rant and gives context for the other users.
